Do I need blinds in my house?

Deciding if you should get blinds

Yes, depending on what you are trying to achieve. A blind is more of a permanent and practical solution. It limits your choices and decoration options because you consider functionality above design, helping make a room feel neat and modern.

Unlike curtains, iTunes does not add unnecessary clutter to your room. Blinds are tucked neatly against windows, adding some elegance and charm to your house. Blinds are efficient at keeping out light and providing privacy.

Blinds come in multiple options, including vertical blinds and Venetian blinds. Convenience and innovation come in shades that automatically close or partially close, depending on the time of day.

Some rooms need blinds and other curtains, but some do look good with both. There are numerous factors to consider when picking window treatments for rooms in your house, from price to insulation to style to orientation within the room.

What windows should have blinds

Blinds perform better on windows facing the front of the house, looking elegant when viewed from the outside of the home. Bedrooms and living rooms should have insulating properties of shade. Smaller windows or smaller areas are better with blinds.

Which windows shouldn’t have blinds

Windows located in low-light areas should not have blinds. The use of blinds on such windows brings total darkness. When you have a nice view, sometimes it is pointless to have blinds. Double-height windows create a clean, modern open feeling, not to be covered by blinds. Oddly shaped windows are better left uncovered, otherwise grey looks ugly. Beautiful windows do not need to be dressed.

How to dress a window without curtains

You can hang and arrange artful items that provide privacy and elegance to your home. Some decor ideas are glass bottles, lace, plants, privacy screen, roman shades, and stained glass. Apply a panel or two of frosted glass windows clinging for some privacy. It is ideal in offices, bathrooms, and other areas where natural light and privacy are needed.

Dressing windows by displaying glass bottles in front of a window is a form of art that you can do using empty bottles of wine or collected vintage bottles. An old lace tablecloth, doilies, or lace ribbon works as a window covering.

You can take some lace and make a DIY window covering the material. Cut up lace to fit your window panels and apply it using an adhesive. The lace is lightweight and has a beautiful pattern. It still allows light to pass through, maintaining privacy.

When it comes to visual interest, you might consider having a fresh garden in front of your window. Plants are an alternative to curtains that you can have in hanging ivy, succulents, or ropes. Floating shelves provide a cover for a window. The light that comes towards the window gives natural light to the plants.

The privacy screen also prevents you from installing curtains. One of its advantages is that you can move it where you want it to be at a particular time. If you want your window to be unobstructed, the screen is ideal. Versatility is one of the features of a private screen since it can be laser-cut wood, metal, or synthetic materials (Totaldefense.com).

Do I need curtains if I have blinds?

There is no harm in having both curtains and blinds in your home. The combination of blinds and curtains on your windows, suits any room in your home, although that can be pricey, meaning you are doubling up the cost of the treatments for each window. It requires you to be strategic in your plans.

Some rooms are better with blinds, not curtains, and vice versa. Some rooms do not require a high level of privacy. Save money on these areas and invest in other parts of your house.  Master bedrooms are one of the places where a combination of both can add style, privacy, and temperature comfort. They are worth the money to invest.

Blinds VS curtains cost

Blinds are more affordable than curtains, making them a budget window option. That does not mean blinds are less pleasing than curtains, but it depends on where they are used. For eight windows, you may need an estimate of 345 and 750 for blinds, whereas, for curtains, you need 400 to 2,000. They take more material and time to make, and more time to install.

Labour cost for installing curtains costs 15 to 150 per window when installed by professionals, whereas the installation of blinds costs 10 to 20 by a professional for a standard window. The cost of curtains and blinds depends on the quality, materials, and how these window covers are made.

Blinds or curtains for home

Blinds and curtains come with benefits and drawbacks. Before you pick one, there are factors to consider. Consider what look you are trying to achieve, cost, ease of installation, maintenance, lighting options, and energy.

The research takes time and patience, but I will make it easy for you by summarising the pros and cons of each method. Curtains have multiple colors and designs, more textures, different thickness options, better energy saving as fewer gaps, are budget-friendly, and are better for interior design and blocking out light.

They are not as durable as blinds, are more costly than blinds, are not for bathrooms and kitchens, reduce energy saving if covering radiators, cannot filter in light, and become moldy and harder to clean.

Just like curtains, blinds have multiple colors and designs available, different slat size and thickness options, and offer good energy-saving fitted to windows. They are more affordable than made-to-measure curtains, cleaner, and have a minimal interior design feel. They are more durable than curtains, are more versatile since they work anywhere in the home, can filter in light, and are easier to clean and maintain.

However, they are not the best at completely blocking out light. They do not have as many textures available, and the blinds are not better energy savers.

Is it ok to have different blinds in different rooms

Yes, because you do not need to match all the blinds in your house. Use different blinds in separate rooms depending on color, theme, and type of furniture. There are no rules on how to use window blinds room-to-room, but some designers will use window blinds throughout the home.

There is no point in choosing the same style or fabric for each room in your home, stick to an element to make the design process a bit easier. If a blind works in the bedroom, it does not mean it will work the same way in the kitchen.

Do blinds have to match throughout the house?

No, but it depends on your personal preference and the overall style of your home.

Can you have different blinds in the same room?

Yes, it is possible, but there should be some coordination between them. When paired, the two colors can bring out an elegant décor and still ensure adequate blocking of light and privacy control.
